Wow, there’s a lot going on in the days ahead! First, our October monthly meeting is just days away.
As we prepare for Halloween, Our October Meeting will take place on October 22 at 1pm at the BETTER FAMILIES THROUGH TAE KWON DO ACADEMY located at 6723 SW 81st St. Miami, FL 33143 just behind THE BIG CHEESE, a South Dade dining landmark. (Please be sure to park in our parking lot, not the restaurant’s.)
We’ll have welcoming activities with door prizes, our stone-of-the-month activity (this time it’s that “tricky-treat” gemstone TIGER EYE), announcements, Q & A, refreshments, and our ever-popular gem-and-mineral raffle.
In keeping with the seasonal mood, Lauren Kairalla will provide us with a spooktacular presentation featuring luminescent and fluorescent minerals. The kids are going to love it!
Then, the next Tri-county Picnic (involving three gem-and-mineral clubs) will take place on Sunday October 29 from 10 AM to 3 PM at TY Park (Topeekeegee Yugnee Park), located at 3300 North Park Road in Hollywood. Take I-95 to the Sheridan Street exit – heading west (over the Turnpike), making a right turn on North Park Road. Park entry fee is $1.50 per person. Our picnic will be at Pavilion #9. It is potluck food and refreshments (feel free to bring “brunch” items – the Clubs supply turkey, ham and beverages), followed by a raffle of donated items, and free BINGO with donated prizes.
As well, members of any of the three clubs may set up tables to swap-and-sell specimens, jewelry, and/or hobby-related equipment.
Next month, the Gem & Mineral Society of the Palm Beaches presents its 56th Annual Gem, Mineral, Bead, Jewelry, & Fossil Show on November 18 – 19, 2023, at the South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33411. There will be more than 80 dealers from all over the country offer a wide range of Fine Jewelry, Southwestern Indian Jewelry, Bead Jewelry, Loose Beads, Rocks and Minerals for Collecting and Cutting, Loose Precious and Semi-precious gemstones, Settings and Findings, Fossils, Meteorites, Tools, Books, and much, much more.
Our Fall GEM & MINERAL SHOW is growing, improving, and moving! On December 2 & 3, 2023, our SHOW will take place at the new WESTCHESTER CULTURAL ARTS CENTER located at the main (Bird Road) entrance to TROPICAL PARK, 7930 SW 40 Street, Miami, FL 33155. Saturday show hours are 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Admission is $5 – children under 12 admitted free (with paid adult admission). There will be mineral and artisan jewelry exhibits and displays, as well as vendors showcasing mineral & fossil specimens, gemstones, fine jewelry, and artisan-crafted collectibles. Children’s activities include jewelry-making sessions, surprise grab-bags, gem mining, geode splitting, rock painting, and scavenger hunts – and even on-site refreshment sales!
